Toshiba released two new netbooks during Taiwan’s IT Month, which is a month long frenzy of discounts and deals. The new netbooks are Toshiba NB500 and NB520, the later kind of being the luxury variant of the first. They have the same hardware specs, namely an Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU, 1 GB of RAM and a 250 GB shock resistant hard drive. Other features include SD slot, VGA connectivity, 3 x USB 2.0,audio jacks, kensington lock.

For hooking up to the internet there’s WiFi, bluetooth and an optional 3G (keep in mind though that 3G is not available in Taiwan for now). But what sets the NB520 apart from the NB500? Well, the awesome Harman/Kardon speakers that are incorporated on both sides of the touchpad (within the palm rest area), according to Netbooknews.com. The sound quality these speakers delivers is mighty impressive; a Harry Potter trailer played on the netbook had exceptional sound even on high volume (what’s even better is that you can connect an iPod to the netbook while it’s turned off and use the speakers).

Match that with the 720p playback that the dual core Atom processor can handle and you have a very good multimedia system on your hands. But the goodies don’t stop here. Toshiba is certainly ahead of the competition when it comes to the finish of this netbook. Around the speakers there is a very soft material to rest your palms on.

But the lid is the most impressive feature of the design, as it has a textured finish, that is both luxurious looking and very solid. This netbook may not have the strongest hardware line up we’ve seen in a netbook, but its audio-centric philosophy and classy finish will surely score some points with those looking for class, not only horse power. The NB520 is up for grabs in Taiwan for around $600, but it will be available worldwide sometime in Q1 2011. Stick around a little more for the hands on video below.
