The new Sony PRS 650 features a sleek design, with an aluminum body and a rubberized back panel.

This touch screen tablet is quite attractive and durably built. The Sony Touch PRS 650 kit comes with a fully-charged battery and an USB cable. The PRS 650 weighs less compared to the Amazon Kindle 3 and is also smaller in size. The device doesn’t have any keyboard and the weight seems to be more concentrated. It will feel solid and overall nice in your hands.

Sony has also enhanced its touch screen. This new line of eBook readers are now equipped with an IR based Neonode touch screen. Say goodbye to the entire glare in sunlight and bright light conditions. Sony’s new touch screen also seems to be very responsive. You always have the option to use your bare fingers or a stylus for navigating through the menu bars.

The new Sony Touch PRS 650 also features five new buttons at the bottom for left & right page turns, font-size adjustments, home, and Options. Turn pages conveniently either by pressing on these buttons or swiping on your touch screen.

The PRS 650 also gives users the option to adjust the screen’s background brightness and contrast. This can help you read a scanned document easily. You may also tap an image/graphic twice in zoom mode and it will directly enlarge itself to fit the display screen.

Library and book management on this device is pretty good. Sort all your eBooks by title, file name, author, latest read, or date added. Users also have the option to organize books in different collections.

Sony is just starting to climb up on the eBook reader wars with the addition of the PRS 650 to their lines. Many say this is only the beginning of Sony’s ascension in the e-reader market, although they are quite old in this field. we’ll just have to wait and see, as their device, although pretty solid and with some advantages (size, touch-display) over the Kindle or the Nook, it is actually a lot more expensive.
