It’s difficult to keep track of all the netbooks Samsung releases. Only a couple of weeks ago we had the NF210, and now we’ve got a version of it called NF208. Liliputing notes that the NF208 has a different type of processor, namely the dual core Intel Atom N550 CPU, and comes without an OS. The move is a good one, because this way you pay less for the netbook and you can then power it with an OS of your liking, maybe one of these free ones popping all over the place.
Most of the time, the price you pay for a netbook or laptop also contains some small incentives for bloatware you automatically uninstall after purchase, so a clean and innocent hard drive is all you actually need when you buy a new machine. Unfortunately, this 10 inch netbook without an OS will not be available in the US, where you never can find a netbook without an OS, most of them packing Windows and OS X, and maybe sometimes one booting with Linux.
But these cases are rare, as an important part of the entire computer eco system is to buy an OS from one of the top players. So if you really get your hands on the NF208, you have to buy it from somewhere else or wait until it hits US soil, probably with Windows 7 Starter Edition on board.
Samsung NF 208
The netbook is currently available in Indonesia for a price lurking around $394 and runs on an Intel Atom 1,5 GHZ Dual Core N550 processor, comes with 2 GB OF RAM, a 320 GB hard disk drive, but there’s room for upgrades, of course. It has integrated Intel graphics, namely the GMA 3150 chip and is based on the Intel Pine Trail platform. The backlight LED display has a resolution of 1024 x 600, and there are a couple of ports, including two 2.0 USB ports and VGA output (no HDMI on this one).
There’s also blue tooth, WiFi and a 6 cell battery and the design is reminiscent of the Shark curves and lines we can find on other Samsung netbooks.
