Samsung Galaxy TAB comes covered in Swarowski Crystals

Samsung Galaxy TAB is slowly fading away into oblivion, as the Xoom tablet, iPad 2, Galaxy TAB 10.1 and Blackberry Playbook are either already released or pretty close to the day when they go live in stores.

Sure, no one can take the merits from the 7 inch tablet, as it was the major contender the iPad had in 2010, when the tablet wars began. It was the only slate to take a serious share of the market and opened the way for a bunch of 7 inch tablets, most of them cheaper than Samsung’s golden slate.

But the TAB wants to go out with a bang. Netbooknews.com reports that an extravagant version of the Samsung Galaxy TAB, covered in Swarowski crystals, will be available in London, from Harrods.

The unit will cost 2.699 pounds, which is too many dollars for us to convert. For that money you can buy about 7 normal Galaxy TAB slates, but they don’t come with any kind of bling bling. I guess that there are some interested people about such a unique asset and we can presume that they won’t be using the tablet per se, but just flash it at parties and stuff.

After all, you don’t get 5.700 hand applied Swarowski crystals on a tablet or phone every day and you really don’t want to keep it for yourself if you spend a little fortune to get it. I’m curious if other manufacturers will try something like this, considering that there are some precedents when comes to blending technology with style and offer unique devices.

The first example coming in mind is the partnership between Asus and Lamborghini, a duo which released over the years high end laptops and accessories, coming with a design resembling the one of race cars and the fire power we came to expect from Asus.

Anyway, the Swarowski-Samsung partnership has all the chances to work and we might see scaled down lines, with less diamonds, but also a lower price, in order to address a larger audience. If actual technical features are still on your list when shopping for a tablet, here’s a quick memo about the Galaxy Tab. It runs Android 2.2, has a Cortex A8 processor, 16 or 32 GB of storage, 2 cameras, WiFi, 3G and full HD playback capacity. Stay tuned for a short video with the Galaxy TAB covered in diamonds.
