The Samsung 9 line of ultra light laptops was introduced during CES, but all the devices came in the 13 inch standard. The notebooks are indeed very light and very thin, but they are too big for most users already settled with netbooks. Good news is that Samsung will release a 9 series notebook in the 11.6 standard, which basically makes it a netbook. Terminology aside, it’s a good news for those wanting to enjoy the portability of the series, but also looking for a smaller device.
Before Samsung admitting officially that there’s a 11.6 version, the notebook was spotted on Provantage, code named 900X1A-A01. The device has the dimensions 11.7 x 7.8 x 0.65 and weights only 1.3 kg, that being the load of a standard 10 inch netbook with a 6 cell battery. Well, the feathery computer doesn’t come cheap, as you’ll have to spend for it more than $1000. But maybe this is some sort of pre order thingy and the price will drop when the notebook will be widely available. Later on, Samsung confirmed that the 11.6 inch version is indeed coming, but refused to give additional info.
A release date is not set, but we can see Samsung lining this one up for the summer, considering they announced it 6 months before. The device comes with a 11.6”, 1366 x 768 display, a low power Core i3 processor from Intel, 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 64 GB SSD (may partially explain the price and weight).

There’s also integrated HD graphics, integrated HD Audio, WiFi, LAN, blue tooth 3.0, 2 USB ports, one of them being 3.0, HDMI, jack output, a 4 cell battery, Windows 7 Premium, while there’s no word about a web cam or other features. Would you spend almost $1200 on this just because it’s easy to carry around?
