The Otterbox Commuter case for iPad is a very good solution for those traveling a lot, but who wish to keep their iPad safe.
Most iPad cases are bulky and the covers are very big, stuffed with foam or whatever in order to assure as much protection as possible for the tablet.
I’m not saying this is a bad thing, but when you have to carry it around with you for 10 or 12 hours a day, it can be pretty tiresome (especially if you’re one of those people who travel light, with a small bag or back pack).
The Otterbox Commuter iPad case is very light, almost like a second skin of the tablet. The case is built in such a way that you have access to all the ports and buttons of the tablet, so you won’t have to take the tablet out of the case to plug or unplug your headphones. There’s even support for connecting the tablet to an iPad dock without any fuss.
The iPad is securely tucked in, behind three layers- and it doesn’t look too shabby either
The package also includes an adherent film for the screen, which is a very good way of prolonging the efficiency and accuracy of the touch screen- not to say, to keep it cleaner. Even if you’re always cleaning your hands and stuff, there’s always dust and particles on your fingers which stick to the screen and make it harder to use.
This rough iPad cover offers three distinct layers of protection. First, there’s the adherent film we’ve mentioned before, that comes with a cleaning cloth and an installation card. In the middle, there’s the durable silicone layer, which is one of the toughest materials we have out there, and finally, the one piece polycarbonate shell. The film, of course, protects the screen, but the other two layers, made from materials used in industrial protection systems, protect the iPad as a whole.
The cut out on the back makes the iPad logo visible
Unfortunately, the case doesn’t offer protection against water, but that is virtually impossible due to the design, which grants access to all ports and buttons, so the layer around the edges is not continuous- plus, there’s a cut out around the Apple logo on the back, which I don’t know if it has a clear purpose, but it looks really cool- but don’t worry, there’s a clear membrane going over the logo and the actual material of the tablet will not be harmed.
The silicone layer on the edges is a little thicker than the overall case, but that’s in order to take in shock and dissipate it through the internal structure of the case. Most of the time, if you drop a phone or a tablet, it will hit the ground with one of the edges and the Otterbox case for iPad takes in the hit instead of the tablet and the actual shock that reaches the slate is much smaller than the initial one.
Access to buttons and ports is made through a series of plugs in the silicone, which don’t loose their rigidity even after you pull them out many times. Also, they don’t get “glued” to the port when it’s very hot outside, like cheaper plugs tend to do. The Otterbox Commuter case for iPad is now available on Amazon for $34.41, which might sound a little expensive, but considering the very meticulous build and protective philosophy behind it, it’s actually a good buy.
The case lets you attach the iPad to stands
Most cases are made from a single layer, which is unable to absorb the shock and much of it actually affects the iPad. So it’s a better choice to spend around 35 bucks on this one, than having to buy another iPad after a couple of accidents, don’t you think?
