Asus 1015P/1015PE netbooks, with matte cases

By Andrei Girbea , updated on June 4, 2014

It seems that Asus has decided to drop the glossy finish entirely with their new series of netbooks showcased these last days at CeBIT 2010.

After the EEE PC 1016P and 1018P, now there are more.

This time, we’re talking about the direct decedents of the 1005PE line, available supposedly in two different versions: an EEE PC 1005PE and an 1005P . Ouch, these indicators are really getting confusing even to me.

Anyway, what these new model bring is just a new type of case, now matte, along with a matte display and new redesigned touchpad (finally they got rid of that dimpled glossy one). In other words, the update corrects the main problems the previous series had.

You can better understand the changes by taking a look at the picture below.

Besides that, specs are more or less the same, although there will be versions with the new N470/N475 processors. You are getting 1 GB of RAM, up to 250 GB hard-drives, Wi-FI N and Bluetooth 2.1, plus the same big 6 Cell batteries that can offers up to 14 hours of life (for the 63 Wh version). There are some details that differentiate the two, both in terms of design and some minor features, but more details should be available soon.

More details about both the 1015P and the 1015PE are available in this post. Also, here you can see some official photos for them. And if you want to read about other members of the 1015 line, you can see here info about the Asus 1015N (with dual core Atom and ION) or the 1015T EEE PC (with AMD hardware).

Update: These machines now sell in the States in 4 different colors: black, white, blue and red. Besides the matte casing and new trackpad, they also bring improved hardware, boosting the 1.83 GHz Atom N475 processor and DDR3 memory. And despire this, battery life is still stellar, with up to 13 hours on a single charge. All these in a device that goes for $379, with Shipping included, so pretty affordable for a top mainstream 10 incher. [
