Lenovo ThinkPad X121e lets you choose between AMD and Intel

Lenovo’s ThinPAd X121e is another entry in the company’s highly successful line of business oriented notebooks and netbooks and will be available primarily for the European and Japanese markets.

The X121e is basically a 11.6 inch netbook having the classic ThinkPad look, the cult keyboard and red dot track button, with the extravagant detail that it lets you choose between AMD and Intel processors.

I’m saying extravagant because Lenovo didn’t play this trick before, as their previous 11.6 inch ThinkPads, the X100e and X120e, featured exclusively AMD chips. The X121e, however, will be available with AMD C-50, AMD C-350 and Intel Corei3 processors, according to a recent report from Liliputing. AMD Fusion solutions are still highly attractive for most manufacturers because they’re cheap, they’re light and come with HD graphics.

The 1 GHZ, dual core C-50 Ontario comes with Radeon HD 6250 graphics, while the 1.5 dual core AMD C-350 packs the superior Radeon HD 6310 chip. The Intel version, a low power dual core processor running at 1.3 GHZ, comes with the slightly more modest Intel GMA HD 3000 graphics. Overall, the three solutions offer kind of similar performance with everyday office and browsing tasks, with the note that AMD chips will be better at decoding HD content- still, don’t think about gaming on these computers, as watching a 720p clip is the most you’ll be able to get out of them.

The Intel version will be available for the Japanese market, while the AMD versions will be available in Europe, with the American market to probably follow in the next couple of months. The laptops can have up to 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB of hard disk drive, a 1366 x 768 display and 3 or 6 cell batteries ( with a maximum of 6 hours). The AMD C-350 version, already available in Germany, goes for 399 euros, and has USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port and a 0.3 MP web cam.

The C-50 version will probably be a little cheaper, but will also be lighter on features. In terms of OS, you’ll be able to choose between a couple of Windows 7 variants, namely Home and Professional. Additionally, a SSD version should become available later on. We’ll let you know how these little sluggers feel under our fingers if we’ll get a sample unit of the AMD powered versions. Stay tuned.

You should know that the x121e with  Intel Core i3-2357M  will boost al lot more power than the e-350.
The videocard will also be better, so in my opinion this one could rule the best 11,6 netbook list.
