HP is still hard at work on the apparently to be defunct netbook market and recently introduced the 10 inch Mini 1104, a netbook that, by the looks of it, might be used more by business people and maybe school kids ( pretty similar categories, eh?).
Well, even if the somber exterior of this little fellow makes it more appropriate for these two niches, considering how small it is, basically anyone can use it and doesn’t have a clear label on it.
As for the great indoors of this netbook, you get the new standard deal, namely an entry level, dual core Intel Atom N2600 processor, clocked at 1.66 GHZ and as much of 2 GB of RAM, which is a pretty decent deal for a base model. The netbook comes with a 320 GB, 5400 rpm hard disk drive, and there’s no word about any SSD version, but that would only push the price up, and the things with netbooks is to keep the price low, considering that the high price spot is now occupied by tablets and ultrabooks.
The display is a standard 1024 x 600 panel, while ports include three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA and audio in/out, so no HDMI or USB 3.0, a sign that this model is not necessarily trying to take advantage of the HD graphics the new Cedar Trail platform can support. As for communications, it’s all fine and dandy, meaning you have WiFi N, Bluetooth 4.0 and the option to upgrade to HSPA+ and GPS, but also get an external DVD burner as well.
The netbook comes with built in stereo speakers and a VGA webcam, so you have all the necessary features for a decent productivity machine that won’t cost you the world and looks sleek and classy, although it doesn’t pack the most solid hardware out there.
In terms of software, the Mini 1104 comes with either Windows 7 or Free DOS, and I would expect the battery to last for more 6 hours, considering it should be strong enough to take you through the day without too many hiccups. The HP Mini 1104 starts at $399, while the HSPA+ will cost you $469. If you’ll grab one of these, let us know how it functions in the real world in the comment section bellow. Enjoy.
